Lunarsol Projects: Where Creativity and Impact Meet
AAPI Solidarity: Artists Standing Together Against Hate
A rapid-response national billboard and media campaign collaboratively created with For Freedoms.
Background Context
AAPI Solidarity was launched in partnership with Michelle Woo, Christy Chan, Gia Kuan, Jeff Chang, JiaJia Fei, Karen Ishizuka, Renee Tajima-Peña, the May 19th Project, OBM, Sacramento Kings, and UCLA. Along with the artists who contributed artwork, we participated in cultural awareness workshops to share stories of diversity and nuance within the AAPI communities.
What We Did
Lunarsol, in collaboration with The May 19th Project and For Freedoms, curated and produced a major public art campaign with the Sacramento Kings. The goal was to broadly visualize and display mutual support in response to the rise in hate and violence against AAPI communities. The project displayed 75 digital billboards across the United States in or near the hometowns of artists speaking out about violence, safety and other important community issues.
,
The Impact
This campaign demonstrated a powerful display of unity against hate and violence directed toward AAPI communities while leveraging the power of public art to create conversation and shift culture. Artists viewed this campaign as a rare chance to collectively oppose the pain caused by hate and challenge harmful stereotypes.

Our process sparks meaningful dialogue, and fosters community solidarity.
The Student Billboard Art Competition: Young Artists with Big Ideas
In parternship with XQ and For Freedoms, the campaign invited students aged 13-21 to depict their visions for future high schools on billboards around the country. The billboards explored themes of racial equity, environmental justice, and acceptance.
Background Context
We created the largest student billboard challenge in the United States. Students created artwork representing the complexity of issues experienced in our educational system after reflecting on prompts like:
- What does a comfortable, safe, productive, and positive learning environment feel like?
- If artists are civic leaders, how can your art support justice in education?
- What does it sound like for a student with your unique voice to be heard?
- What inspires you to learn?
What We Did
Lunarsol, in collaboration with For Freedoms, took charge of conceptualizing, crafting, and overseeing the artist challenge prompts, digital billboard placements, mobile billboards campaign, and installations. We also produced captivating live art activations in Rhode Island to launch the billboard competition.
,
The Impact
The winning students' art was featured on prominent billboards in or near their hometowns. Students embraced their identity as artists and had a unique opportunity to convey their ideas for enhancing educational experiences in their communities.

Woman, Life, Freedom: Amplifying Global Calls for Gender Justice
Global action in solidarity with Iranian women and girls who are courageously demonstrating peacefully for their fundamental human rights.
Background Context
Woman, Life, Freedom: A global solidarity action for and with Iranian women and girls asserting their human rights. It began with nationwide protests in Iran, ignited by the tragic death of Mahsa Jina Amini in police custody for not covering her hair. This initiative, including petitions, demonstrations, and a political campaign, raised awareness of violence against women in Iran and called for the removal of Iran from the UN Commission on the Status of Women.
What We Did
Lunarsol worked with Vital Voices, and For Freedoms, to mobilize a global coalition of Iranian women leaders, artists, political leader, activists, and lawyers to raising urgent awareness for the campaign in solidarity with women in Iran. We conceptualized and coordinated the efforts to create a two page centerfold spread in the New York Times, artwork for a social media campaign and website where signatures were gathered for the petition, art installations and actions at Four Freedoms Park, and aerial billboard actions around the Statue of Liberty and on the Hudson river shining light on the injustice towards women in Iran. This project had a direct call to action to remove Iran from the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).
,
The Impact
In December of 2022, the United Nations Economic and Social Council adopted a resolution to remove Iran from the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) for the remainder of its term ending in 2026.
