Healing Through Creative Practice
Using Art as a Pathway to Healing and Transformation

Background
Healing Through Creative Practice (HTCP) is a foundational practice within Quiet, developed as both a methodology and a creative approach. HTCP harnesses art as a tool for healing, self-expression, and transformation. Sponsored by Quiet, in partnership with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Sol Guy, Grounded Memphis, Sister Peace, richie reseda and JJ88 of Question Culture, and George Morton of Atelier South, HTCP expands access to creative practices that foster personal and collective growth.

Approach
Lunarsol designed a 100-hour immersive e-learning curriculum, seamlessly integrated into the CDCR milestone education program. The course showcases world-class art—films, music, and visual storytelling—featured on HBO, PBS, and international film festivals. Through structured modules, HTCP empowers incarcerated individuals to:
- Healing & Self-Care
- Creative Expression & Mindfulness
- Intergenerational Storytelling & Community Building
- Accountability & Personal Growth
With digital accessibility, workshops, and in-person artist-led sessions, HTCP ensures that creative practice remains a central tool for rehabilitation. Participants who complete the program are eligible for sentence reduction benefits.
Impact
Since its May 2024 launch, HTCP has reached all 33 CDCR facilities through print, tablet, and film screenings. By providing access to globally recognized art, the program transforms spaces often deprived of beauty into places of reflection, healing, and self-discovery.
Upcoming expansions include:
- A nationwide rollout to correctional institutions, schools, and alternative learning spaces.
- Digital course accessibility for broader community impact.
Artist collaborations to diversify creative offerings.
